What is getting migrated?

We are migrating your Hosting package to our new datacenter in Mumbai. The new datacenter is called GPX, and it is India’s first Uptime Institute Certified Tier-4 datacenter. Your package will be migrated to the latest enterprise grade Dell servers, and your website will become much faster as a result of this migration.

You can find out more about new datacenter (GPX) here - http://goo.gl/wHFfBk and here - http://goo.gl/Nc82qd.

What is the purpose of this migration?

We are migrating so that our customers experience better and faster services. You will have a simpler user interface to manage your account, better tools to simplify bulk domain orders, better hardware, better support and many more features.

Any chances of losing my data?

No. There will be no data loss during migration.

Is there any downtime?

During the maintenance window, as detailed in the email you received from us, your site will be down for up to an hour (depending on the size of your website) so that we can transfer your data to the new server.

Post the maintenance window, you will need to make the changes to your DNS so that your website is pointing to our nameservers. You will need to login to your domain control panel and change the nameservers to the ones detailed in the email sent to you.

Will my Name Servers change?

Yes. Right before we start the maintenance, we will send you an email with the details of your new nameservers, the IP address of new server and the hostname of the new server.

Will my IPs Change?

Yes, your IP(s) will change. If you change your domain nameservers to the ones we specify, then you do not need to worry about the IPs. However, if you wish to use your own nameservers, you will have to change the A record to point to the new IP address.

Will my FTP details change?

There are no changes to your FTP login details. However, for security reasons uploading files using an FTP client is only allowed using FTPS (also known as FTP Secure or FTP-SSL). Hostgator recommends using the following FTP client, as they support FTPS:

FileZilla: Choose Site Manager under the File menu. Then, click the New Site button. Here, mention the following details :
Host as the New IP Address
Port as 21
Protocol as FTP as File Transfer Protocol
Select Require explicit FTP over TLS from the Encryption drop-down menu.
LogonType as Normal
User as Old FTP Username
Password as Old FTP Password

If you prefer using the QuickConnect option,
Host as ftpes://New IP Address
Username as Old FTP Username
Password as Old FTP Password
Port as 21
Click on Quickconnect button.

While using any other FTPS client, remember to select Explicit (FTPES) mode, if it supports both FTPS modes: Explicit and Implicit.
